About Walker Water Solutions

Walker Water Solutions has been working in the field of Water Resource Management for the past 22 years. During this time Claret Walker started working as a Government Official at the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry in Pretoria in 1998. In 2002 she joins the Department of Environment and Development Planning in the Western Cape. Between 2002–2012 she worked in a consulting capacity for the Working for Water and Working for Wetlands Expanded Public Works Programmes in Cape Town. During 2006, the Regulations of the Water Act which requires applicants to apply for water use authorisations was enacted, but it was only in 2014 when Claret Walker realised the need to assist these applicants with this process and when she started Walker Water Solutions.

Who We Are

Claret Walker receive her BA (HOD)(Hons) Degree in Geography in 1995 from the University of Pretoria. Shortly after, her career takes off with the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry in Pretoria in 1998, where she becomes involved in Water Resource Management on a Strategic level, through her involvement in the coordination and roll out of the National Biodiversity Program. After further exposure to Water Resource Projects from policy level to ground level at various institutions, she realised how important the aspect of Education and Knowledge-sharing is in this business, and she pursued her Masters Degree in Environmental Education from the University of Rhodes, Grahamstown in 2011. Since the start of Walker Water Solutions, more than 150 Water Use Applications have been compiled, coordinated and completed. Claret is passionate about water and treats every application with perseverance and dedication.

The business provides a complete service to all applicants from the initiation of the application process to meetings with the Regulatory Authority, until submission and follow through. The most valuable contribution of WWS to the process is the support, facilitation and constant communication with the Department, during the Assessment of the Application.

Our Duties and Responsibilities

• Compilation of the Water Use Application documents plus all the required reports depending on the type of water activity 

• Compilation of the Section 27 Motivational Report 

• Complete the Water Use License Applications Forms (DW Forms)

• Negotiate with the Department of Water and Sanitation before and after the application has been submitted, on behalf of the applicant

• Negotiate with the Project Team i.e. Town & Regional Planners, Environmental Practitioner, Engineers, Treatment Specialists, Wetland & Freshwater Specialists and Geohydrologists

• Compilation of different types of maps with the use of GIS software

• Undertake Public Participation as prescribed in the Water Act

• Incorporate i.e. Environmental Impact Studies and Basic Assessment Reports in the Water Use License Application

• Assure that the Applicant stays informed about the process from application through to outcome
